Bebeh Turdees
Two months ago, give or take, my daughter and son noticed a mama Painted turtle laying her eggs in the backyard down by our pond.
Almost every day since then, if one of them was home, they went down to check on the turtle nest to watch for signs of hatching.
Yesterday was the big day!
Aaron went down and noticed the sand was disturbed. He looked closer, then gently moved some of the sand.
Voila'! Five bebeh Painter turtees!!
We brought them up for photos and then released them down at the dried up mud puddle pond. And, just in time, we got a good rain last night and today, so yay for turdees! They now have a pond again!
Do you think they knew that it was safe to hatch because rain was coming?

Whee! I love painted turtles! It's fun to be by the pond and see their little heads popping up, all "Wassup?" and checking out the scene.
Mom said it rained pretty hard last night. It held off all through fair week (Calhoun County, Marshall, FYI) so it was nice to not have rain on the kiddies.
....a dink...a dink a doo.....and a little softshoe.....
The little squirt on the left in the second pic is personality plus! Either that or he's all "Please...which way the yellow brick road, ma'am?" I'm happy they'll be ok and have a good life's start.
OMG SO SWEEEEET!!! Such pretty patterns! SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!
It's still raining today. Wow. This is weird, we had two solid months of dry hot death and now, flood warnings! Love ya, Mom Nature! ;))))
I'm going to have to go out and check on the food and water level in the guinea pig bench in the goat shed. The piggies won't be going out and eating grass today!
At least there will be a lot of grass growing in the next few days to replace the crispy brown dead stuff!
AND, they are hidingk in my mudpuddle pond which is now transforming back into a real pond!!
So apropos, Kirk!!
"Man I'm telling you, we're just chasing our own tails here... we've just passed this road!"
;)
O these are the cutest lil critters ever! How big are they by now? New photos?
