This quote made me laugh. Can I be a "philosopher"?
I don't know why we are here, but I'm pretty sure that it is not in
order
to enjoy ourselves. -Ludwig Wittgenstein, philosopher (1889-1951)
Great conclusion, Ludwig! :P
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass
springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature
have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is
alive.

karuna (KUH-roo-na) noun
Loving compassion.
[From Sanskrit karuna (compassion).]
"Once we experience and feel this
inter-dependence of all living beings,
we will cease to hurt, humiliate,
exploit and kill another. We will want
to free all sentient beings from
suffering. This is karuna, compassion,
which in turn gives rise to the
responsibility to create happiness and
its causes for all."

A couple of quotes from Edward Abbey that I found on Dr. Mardy Grothe's site.... Dr.Mardy
On the state of our nation...
"Society is like a stew.
If you don't keep it stirred up you
get a lot of scum on the top."
"A patriot must always be ready to
defend his country against
its government."
And, for a more personal touch for myself:
"As a confirmed melancholic, I can testify that
the best and
maybe only antidote for melancholia is action.
However, like most
melancholics, I suffer also from sloth."
Thank you, Mr. Abbey. I enjoyed those. And, I feel less slothful than usual, today, too! :)
Hi, hi!
As a postscript to my "Thinking about Food" post, today I recieved this quote in my email. Ruh roh!!!

Life consists in what a man is thinking of all day. -Ralph Waldo Emerson,
writer and philosopher (1803-1882)

That makes me GRAVY.
Anywhoooo, I promised another pic of the Taj, this time with the nifty poofy red flowers in front...let's give that a try, shall we?
Hooray hooray, it worked! *jumps up and down while still seated*
An interesting sidenote. Our guide told us that one of the four towers to the corners used to be open for people to climb to the top, but so many lovelorn people had used them as suicide launches that they had to be closed. I was rather glad no one was splatting on the marble around us!
"It's a mistake to try and cheer up a camel. You might as well throw meringues into a black hole."
Persons appear to us according to the light we throw upon them from our
own
minds. -Laura Ingalls Wilder, author (1867-1957)
I get these quotes in my email every day. They are almost always shareworthy! So....I do! :)
No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If
we're
looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for
drugs,
we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of
power.
-P.J. O'Rourke, writer (1947- )
Ooooh, here's another one worth sharing!!!
"The only tyrant I accept in this world is the 'still small voice'
within
me". -Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
There
is no religion without love, and people may talk as much as they like
about
their religion, but if it does not teach them to be good and kind to
other
animals as well as humans, it is all a sham. -Anna Sewell,
writer
(1820-1878)
