But, seriously, folks, it's cold, wet and dreary and I am going to sponge paint my kitchen today. I am, I am, I really am.
But, first, I felt that I should contribute to Vox, since I have been neglecting it lately. Here's a few recent pics from my life. w00ty t00t t00t! :D
We always call Toffee "Toffee Lou Who" after she gets her Spring Haircut. :D
Have a good day, friends!
It's been such a cold and snowy winter for the SE of Michigan. Many critters out here at the Lauri hacienda are having difficulties finding foods.
Deer, turkeys, pheasants and squirrels are all patrolling the grounds in search of goodies. Snacks of chicken food and goat food are always scattered around for those searching and the bird feeders are mostly always full.
About three weeks ago a little dude showed up in our yard. I believe it's his first winter, since he's just a little guy, he has woken up early from his winter nap, as youngsters tend to do. Ashlee named him Porter, and he earned the nickname "Daypossum", since he doesn't seem to realize that he is a nocturnal species. Since that time he has shown up daily to feast on birdseed or on the crabapples in our flowering crabtrees.
Yesterday, while Ashlee and I were both at work, hubby went into the backyard to feed the chickens and goats. Alas, he spotted what appeared to be a dead Porter, lying by our little fishpond, with two of our dogs snuffling about. Hubby put the dogs in the house, finished feeding the other animals, and went to dispose of poor Porter. He picked the possum up by the tail to take him in the garage and throw him in the trashcan.
Suddenly hubby became suspicious. Porter was limp. Completely unconscious, apparently dead, but...rigor mortis wasn't setting in. Rather than trashing Porter, he sat him down by the front door, out of dogs' reach.
10 minutes later hubby checked. Sure enough, Porter had rolled onto his chest and was sniffing the air confusedly. 10 minutes after that, hubby saw Porter ambling away across the front yard. Wow, that "playing possum" really does work!
Hooray! Here is what I found today when I looked out the front window! A very much alive Porter, munchin' down on the crabapple tree. Please, Porter, stay out of the backyard where dogs roam!
